Revise Thoroughly
1) Over the years, the Board exam pattern has undergone a bit of transition wherein the difficulty level is slightly higher with the emphasis more on “application-based” approach to questions which means that the students will have to be conceptually and analytically very strong to be able to solve such questions. The same approach is required in competitive exams like the JEE (Main and Advanced)/ NEET.
2) Starting anything new from scratch may not be a wise idea. One must focus on revising all that has already been covered earlier. Alongside start preparing a concise note for each subject. Make sure it should be simple and crisp, culled out of the notes prepared over the year with all important concepts, formulae, terms, diagrams, et al for ready reference. This note will come real handy just before the Board exam and/or JEE Main / NEET, for a quick revision .
3) Over the year, you would have encountered difficult topics/questions. Devote some time to revise them and solve problems pertaining to those concepts. This will boost your confidence. Focus on the topics/questions with higher marks weight-age and refer to past 10 years question paper databank. The same approach could be deployed for JEE / NEET.
Practice Writing
1) Give equal importance to all subjects. A lot of time, language papers gets neglected in Boards. At the end, it is the sum weight-age of all subjects that counts.
2) In Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) revise the important concepts and formulae, practice diagrams along with labelling. Since Maths is the most scoring subject, solve problems rigorously across topics to gain speed and accuracy.
3) Do a lot of writing practice and focus on the quality of writing and cleanliness — underline and highlight important points, equation, conclusion. Avoid step jumps. All this is crucial from board exam perspective.
4) You need to focus on the answer presentation from Board exam perspective although the fundamental concepts of all subjects remain the same between Board and JEE Main/NEET.
Mock Tests
1) Mock tests are the most important tool at this juncture. One must write at least one mock test each for Board & JEE/NEET , every week. It enables to assess ones preparation, figure out the weak areas, build exam temperament, learn to effectively manage time during exam, improve upon speed and accuracy.
LEARNING THE ART OF BALANCING BETWEEN BOARD AND JEE/NEET
JEE exam 2017: No weightage to Class XII marks
The Union Ministry of Human Resource (HRD Ministry) has decided that Class XII marks will not be a factor for determining rankings in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admissions to engineering undergraduate courses from next year.
HRD Ministry officials said the decision was taken by the Ministry after a committee set up by IIT Council submitted recommendations on changes in the JEE pattern, which were put in the public domain for wide consultations.
“After examining the Ashok Mishra Committee’s report and public feedback, MHRD has decided on a few changes in the JEE pattern for 2017. The present system of allotting 40 per cent weightage to Class XII marks for determining ranks in JEE shall be dispensed with,” an official said.
The committee had in November recommended major changes in the JEE structure, including setting up of a National Testing Service to conduct tests for shortlisting about four lakh students for the exam.
The Committee of Eminent Persons had submitted its report on November 5. Its recommendations were aimed at weaning IIT aspirants away from the dependence on coaching institutes.
The Ministry had put the Committee’s recommendations in the public domain for wide consultations and decided that the JEE 2016 be conducted in the manner it was held in 2015, with an enhanced intake from 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh in the JEE (Advanced) stage.
